The goal
An AI coding agent works in a terminal you are not always looking at. Orbit puts its state on the desktop at a glance: whether it is thinking, working, finished or waiting for your permission, and which helpers it has sent off.
Case study · 2026
I built Orbit, an always-on-top desktop widget that shows what Claude Code is doing. An Avatar Lab character plays Claude and reacts to the session, and the subagents it spawns orbit around it as characters of their own.

Overview
An AI coding agent works in a terminal you are not always looking at. Orbit puts its state on the desktop at a glance: whether it is thinking, working, finished or waiting for your permission, and which helpers it has sent off.
Claude Code posts every event to the widget through HTTP hooks, and Orbit folds them into per-session state: status, current tool, subagents and an activity feed. Two modes: a resizable panel with Activity, Agents and Sessions tabs, and an island pill at the top of the screen that glows red when Claude needs you. The characters come from Avatar Lab and the interface from Glint UI.
Built and packaged as a Windows installer, with one click to connect it to Claude Code.
